He bailed out the Auto industry. I have to admit that I was actually against this, I didn’t think it would work and therefore it would just be a waste of budget monies but I, along with many others, was wrong. Not only did the auto bailouts allow for higher standards on car manufacturing and emissions to be put into place effectively but it saved thousands of jobs thus helping the economy right when the economy needed a hell of a lot of help. Even better is that Chrysler Group LLC has actually already paid roughly 10.6 billion of the 12.5 billion borrowed from the U.S back and GM is earning good profits again so the government is already beginning to divest itself of GM stock as well.
He brought our troops home from Iraq, the last troops left on December 18, 2011, he gave the order for Marines to take out Bin Laden, and he strengthened sanctions on Iran to move oil purchases away from Iran and to punish firms and individuals who aid in Iran’s petroleum Sector – this is called the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act.
He increased the VA budget by 16% in 2010 and by another 10% in 2011 as well as signed a new GI bill which bumped up tuition reimbursement – as I am married to a veteran who has utilized the VA multiple times and will most likely continue to do so this has been a specific benefit to us.
He has also begun to “pivot” us towards Asia by creating military and diplomatic focus on the Asian – Pacific region. This is important because as it stands China is a global force and we need to have a bigger presence, understanding and better leadership in regards to that area in order to remain a Global force as well, both commercially and militarily.
AND! he signed the Lilly Ledbetter Act (yay! equal pay for the lady folks), the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (down with fat cats and bureaucrats), and repealed DODT (grrrl, you can say your gay and still fight in our wars now).
Coming soon: The craptastic of President Obama’s first (or only) term.
